England all-rounder Moeen Ali has said goodbye to all forms of international cricket after not being selected in the team for the white ball series with Australia. Moeen said in an interview to the Daily Mail, 'I am 37 years old and I was not selected for the white ball series with Australia. I have played a lot of cricket for England and now it is time for the next generation, as I was explained. I felt this was the right time to put an end to my contribution.'

He said, 'Even now I can say that I will continue to try to play for England, but the truth is that I will not be able to do so. I am not even retiring because I can no longer play well - I still believe in myself that I can play. But this is how it goes, the team goes in a different direction. So I want to be honest with myself.'

He said, 'I am proud of myself. When you play for England for the first time, you do not know how many matches you are going to play. So playing around 300 matches is a big deal. I played more Test cricket for the first few years of my career. When Morgan became the captain of limited overs, then the journey was more fun. But Test cricket was the highest form of cricket.'

He said about franchise cricket, 'I will still continue to play cricket, so I will play some franchise cricket. But coaching is something that I would like to do going forward and I will try to be the best there too. I can learn a lot from Brendon McCullum. I want people to know me as a lively person. I have played many good shots and many bad shots, but I hope people liked my game.'

Moeen Ali made his international debut in 2014 and played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20 matches as an all-rounder. At the international level (all formats) for England, Moeen scored 6678 runs, eight centuries, 28 half-centuries and took 366 wickets. He last represented England in international cricket in Guyana this year, where England lost to India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
