India on Thursday summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi to register a strong protest over the death of an Indian fisherman. The Indian fisherman's boat capsized after colliding with a Sri Lankan naval ship and a fisherman died in this accident. Now India and Sri Lanka are face-to-face on this matter. India has expressed strong protest to Sri Lanka over the death of the fisherman.

India on Thursday summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi to register a protest.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that officials of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna have been instructed to immediately go to Kankesanthurai and provide all possible assistance to the fishermen and their families. The Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi was summoned to the Ministry this morning.

The Ministry of External Affairs has lodged a strong protest over the incident. The Ministry of External Affairs said, 'We have expressed our condolences on the unfortunate loss of lives.' The Ministry said that the Government of India has always emphasized the need to deal with issues related to fishermen in a humane and humanitarian manner.

The existing understanding between the two governments in this regard should be strictly followed. Maximum efforts should be made to ensure that the use of force is not used. The government gives the highest priority to the safety of Indian fishermen.

In this case, out of the four Indian fishermen on board the vessel, one lost his life and the other is missing. Two fishermen have been rescued and brought to the Kankesanthurai coast. The search for the missing Indian fisherman is ongoing.
