Madras HC grants bail to warden in drowning case of school children, orders to give Rs 5 lakh to family members
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Srinivasa Rao, warden of Sriman Trust-Battar Gurukulam Padasala in Srirangam, Trichy. The case pertains to the drowning of three students in Kollidam River in Tiruchi district on May 14, 2023. Justice Elangovan ordered the petitioner to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of each deceased.
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Srinivasa Rao, warden of Sriman Trust-Battar Gurukulam Padasala in Srirangam, Trichy. The case pertains to the drowning of three students in Kollidam River in Tiruchi district on May 14, 2023.
Three people, including Vishnu Prasad, who was studying at Gurukulam in Srirangam in Trichy district, drowned in the Kollita river in May this year. In this regard, Srinivasarao had filed a petition in the Madurai Branch High Court demanding anticipatory bail. After which the matter came up for hearing before Judge Elangovan.
Justice Elangovan ordered the petitioner to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of each deceased.
Justice Elangovan ordered, that this amount should be deposited in the trial court of Trichy district and can be taken by the parents of the student if required.
The court also directed the petitioner to attend Srirangam police station every day till further orders and granted anticipatory bail to the petitioner.
