Important meeting of government with tech companies today, law can be made to stop deepfakes
A meeting of the government and tech companies is going to be held today to deal with the growing threat of deepfake technology. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and Communications Ashwini Vaishnav will chair the meeting.

The meeting is expected to be attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, government officials and cyber security experts. The purpose of this meeting is to formulate strategies to stop deepfake content and solve them.
Earlier on November 18, Ashwini Vaishnav had said that the government has issued a notice to all major social media platforms to stop deepfake content and there will be a meeting with these platforms soon. Speaking on the deepfake issue, Ashwini Vaishnav has said that it is a very serious problem. Deepfakes are a big issue for all of us.
Serious discussion about deepfakes has started ever since a deepfake video of South actress Rashmika Mandanna went viral. After that the government issued an advisory to social media companies. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said about deepfake that it is very dangerous.
PM Modi told that a video of him playing Garba has gone viral, even though he has never played Garba. After this statement of PM Modi, deepfake has now become a national issue. In today's meeting, a new law can be made regarding deepfakes or the old IT law itself can be amended.
