Cheti Chand 2026: Marking the 1076th Year of Sindhi New Year and The Eternal Blessings of Jhulelal Organised by Jitendra Motwani

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 28: As spring arrived and nature awakened, the global Sindhi community came together to celebrate Cheti Chand, also known as Chetri Chandra, the festival that marked the birth anniversary of their revered patron deity, Lord Jhulelal, and the beginning of the Sindhi New Year. In 2026, the occasion carried even greater significance as devotees commemorated the 1076th year of Jhulelal’s divine incarnation, a milestone that strengthened cultural pride and deepened spiritual devotion.

One of the most significant traditions of Cheti Chand is the Bahārana Sahib procession, a reverent offering carried to nearby rivers, lakes, or the sea. The Baharana Sahib typically includes: A kalash (pot), Oil lamps, Nariyal (coconut), Earthen lamps, rice, water, and prasad. Families and community groups walked together as they carry the Baharana Sahib to the waterbody, offering prayers for protection, prosperity, and peace. As the kalash is gently placed at the water’s edge, devotees sing “Cheti Chand Mubarak!” and chant hymns seeking Jhulelal’s eternal blessings.

True to the Sindhi ethos of humility and service (Seva), Cheti Chand celebrations include Langars, free community meals open to all.
