Australia registered a 309-run win over Netherlands in the ODI World Cup on Wednesday. This is the biggest win by any team in terms of runs in World Cup history. The previous record was 257 runs. Only Australia had defeated Afghanistan by this margin in Perth in 2015.

Glenn Maxwell (106 runs on 44 balls) became the batsman to score the fastest century in the World Cup. He scored a century in 40 balls. Apart from him, David Warner (104 runs on 93 balls) also scored a century. Australia won the toss and batted first and scored 399 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Netherlands team was reduced to a score of 309 runs in 20.5 overs.

Netherlands bowler Bas de Leede became the bowler who gave the most runs in an ODI match. He conceded 115 runs in 10 overs taking 2 wickets, while Logan Van Beek took 4 wickets.

Australia improved its batting after the powerplay and middle overs. The team scored 200 runs at a run rate of 10 after losing 6 wickets in the last 20 overs.

In the middle, Netherlands created pressure by taking the wickets of Labuschagne (62 runs), Josh Inglis (14 runs), Warner (104 runs) and Cameron Green (8 runs), but Glenn Maxwell, who came to bat at number 6, showed his fierce form and scored 40 runs. Aryan Dutt gave the second success to Netherlands in the very first over of his second spell. He got Smith caught by Roelof van der Merwe on the third ball of the 24th over. Merv took a brilliant catch at backward point. Earlier, one of his catches was declared invalid. Smith was out after scoring 71 runs.

Later, Warner hit 4 fours in the third over of Dutt, however, Logan Van Beek took the wicket of Mitchell Marsh on the 5th ball of the fourth over.
