The government also removed the last hurdle in the merger between Tata Group's Air India and Vistara. In fact, Singapore Airlines got approval from the government for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as part of Vistara's proposed merger with Air India. Vistara is operated by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines together. The merger may be completed by the end of this year.

If you prefer to travel with Tata Group's Vistara Airlines, you will be able to book flights only till November 11, 2024. According to the airline, from the beginning of next month, passengers will not be able to book Vistara tickets for November 12 or later. Air India will operate all Vistara planes from November 11 onwards. Booking for Vistara planes will be redirected to the Air India website.

It also cleared the final obstacle in the merger of Tata Group-owned Air India with the latter's sister airline Vistara. Actually, Singapore Airlines has received the government's nod for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the proposed merger of Vistara with Air India. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines. Completion of the merger of Vistara and Air India can be finished by the end of this year.

Vistara and Air India announced their merger in November 2022. Air India too is owned by the Tata Group. Currently, Tata Group owns 51 percent and Singapore Airlines 49 percent stakes in Vistara. The deal would involve combining the fleet, manpower, and routes. When the merger process is closed, Air India will be one of the largest airline groups globally. It would be owned 25.1 percent by Singapore Airlines. It will also invest $276 million in Air India.
